Bus widescreen 3 1024x576 - Prisoner Training & Placements

Hello,

The wheels on the bus, go round and round, round and round, round and…

Well, frustratingly not as often as they should. Recent local bus driver shortages mean buses sometimes just don’t appear. Leaving our guys (and fellow bus travelers) stranded, wondering what is going on.

The young man on the bus, is looking a bit weird, looking a bit weird, looking a bit…

On someone’s first day I like to get down to the bus stop to meet them. I used to worry… How will I recognise them, should I have asked for a description? But in all honesty, it’s never a problem.

Today is no different, although this young man (coming for an interview) makes a sudden, slightly unexpected crab movement across the pavement.

I decide we will go for a walk first. Turns out his anxiety is high, so he bought a bottle of vodka to help… It is not helpful, at all! I explain our zero-tolerance policy, agree that he can have one second chance in two days and before he gets back onto the bus, I ask how he can afford the vodka… “Mate it’s cheaper than my bus fare.”

The man on the bus, is busy on his phone, busy on his phone, busy on his…

“Oh yeah, hi Chris, just to let you know the bus is running late will be there in about 15 minutes.” I am so pleased… I find myself telling everyone how impressed I am with his responsibility, I’m highly congratulatory. Until I hear my own words. He’s only doing what is ‘normal’… I’m just so used to ‘not-normal.’

There are many unorthodox indicators of progression at LandWorks, and this should be one of them.

The people on bus, want some leveling up, want some leveling up, want some leveling…

Bus fares here are twice the price of London. So, Mr. Gove (Minister for leveling up), when you read this…

The man on the bus, is necking an energy drink, necking an energy drink, necking an energy…

Oh great, I confiscate (banned them years ago) the remaining drink and lock the other half of the ‘two for one deal’ away. These very high sugar, caffeine fueled drinks seem particularly attractive (for some reason) to guys with ADHD, not helpful at 9am, makes for a very long day and he genuinely seems to think this is a sensible breakfast!

The guys on the bus, are actually doing really well, doing really well, doing really…

They leave Torquay (an interesting urban sprawl, like so many in Britain, very wealthy in parts, but an underbelly of severe social deprivation) at 8 am, to arrive in Totnes at 9 am. All voluntary, all on benefit, all trying to sort life out, they leave Totnes at 4pm, it’s a long day. It is real commitment.

Political parties, like a slogan on a bus, like a slogan on a bus, like a slogan on a…

How about…… Support the NHS. Price sugary drinks and alcohol at socially responsible prices.

PS if any tax is left over, level up (or down!) some bus fares, it cost £25 for a week’s ticket in Torbay!
