Hello,
My name is Sam and I’m an employee and part of the team here at LandWorks tending after the Market Garden. I’ve been asked to write this week’s blog by Chris, and initially I was kind of stumped on what to write. Then I thought that I would say a bit about my time here from way back in May 2022 to now.
As much as it saddens me to say I’m leaving LandWorks, I am about to embark on a new journey in Dorset. I wanted to speak about what this place has done for me over the past couple of years.
I left prison in April 22 and first started coming to LandWorks a month later, when I had first arrived, I was an anxious wreck and lost within myself, not knowing what I wanted from life or even what life wanted from me!
First walking through the gate I was taken back with the surroundings, its bespoke place situated in the Dartington estate gave it that glistening arura that I needed to feel comfort and it’s done just that.
Out of the activities here, it was the Market Gardens where I found most at ease, working alongside plants really done wonders for my mental health, and to this day I stay grounded because of such. I asked Chris about how I wanted to further my education within this field (pun not intended) and he helped me do just that, so now I’m studying my RHS level 2 & attending a course at the Apricot Centre just up the road.
The people here, staff & trainees have helped me tremendously in many aspects of the bumpy road I’ve walked, but now I can proudly say that I’m a better version of myself and have this newfound confidence that’s allowed me to move on as mentioned earlier.
I dislike talking in hindsight, that being said if it wasn’t for LandWorks and all that’s within I wouldn’t be the man I am today… so thank you.
Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year
Sam
