Football match 1024x479 - Prisoner Training & Placements

22 October 2024 –

A charity football match held at Totnes and Dartington FC’s home ground at Foxhole – right alongside our market garden – has raised £1000 for LandWorks.

The charity match, held on  September 15th, was hosted by the Madri Boys, a local T&D team, who took on a star-studded Torquay United AFC Allstars team to raise funds for LandWorks, and for Young Lives vs Cancer, which provides support to children and their families who are facing or have faced a battle with cancer.

Among the illustrious names donning the Torquay United All-Stars jersey were Wembley goal scorer and well-known TV pundit Chris Hargreaves, and the club’s all-time appearance record holder, Kevin Hill. The Madri Boys were represented by former T&D players, as well as a few wildcards, making for a well-fought game which ended 3-3, thanks to a superb equaliser from the Madri Boys’ Alan Hamlet.

The sun shone on the family friendly event which included a raffle, barbecue, cake stall and refreshments, as well as a showcase of young talent from the Dartington and Totnes FC foundation teams. Together they raised £2,000 which was shared between LandWorks and Young Lives vs Cancer. A sports kit collection also took place on behalf of SOS Kit Aid, to gather essential sports gear and equipment for disadvantaged children around the globe.

“It’s wonderful to see so many footballers and their families coming together in a spirit of competitive fun and friendliness to support charities such as Young Lives vs Cancer and LandWorks” said LandWorks Project Director Chris Parsons. “We are hugely grateful to the Madri Boys, the Torquay United AFC Allstars, and Totnes and Dartington FC for the funds raised which will be put to use helping people who have been in prison, or are at risk of going to prison, find a supported route back into employment and the community.”
