16 March 2026 –

On 17th May, a 14-strong team of trainees, graduates, staff, supporters, and a trustee from LandWorks will be running the Plymouth Half Marathon to raise funds for our rehabilitation and resettlement work.

Not only are they committing to this 13.1-mile challenge in aid of LandWorks, but thanks to the extraordinary generosity of a supporter, every pound they raise will be match-funded up to £10K  ̶   meaning your sponsorship will be doubled!

Joining Team LandWorks are trainees Leo and Stan; graduate Patrick; staff members Steve, Daniela, Julia, and Emma; Supporters Alison, Lenny, Holly, Meg, Sarah and David; and Trustee Dr Sarah Wollaston.

The idea to enter a team for the half-marathon all began with a quiet chat in the market garden – as so many significant moments do at LandWorks. “Leo was telling me about his love of running, and as we continued the conversation over our tea-break, more LandWorks team members and trainees joined in,” revealed Site Manager Steve Wellington. “Someone mentioned the Plymouth Half Marathon, and before we knew it, Team LandWorks was up and running!”

“For me, it was about doing something good for the people of LandWorks,” said Leo. “Exercise has been a big part of my life and has really helped my journey. It is really good for your mental health. Personally, it’s exciting seeing everyone come together as a community. This has given me motivation to sign up for a marathon later this year. I’ve got more dedication to get out there and train because we are doing it as a team.”

Pottery and Art Lead Julia had been curious about running a half marathon for some time but had never quite committed. “After two years working at LandWorks, joining the team to raise money for our charity felt like the perfect reason to finally go for it,” she explained.

As others started signing up, Operations Manager Emma thought ‘why not?’ “I’ve run a couple of half marathons before, but the last one was in 2008, so it’s been a while,” she admitted. “At 53, I want something to focus on and to prove to myself that I can still do it  ̶   even if it hurts a bit more than it used to!”

As for Steve, his motivation is clear. “I’m doing it for Leo,” he said. “We’ve identified something that someone is passionate about and in typical LandWorks style we are all keen to get involved. The fundraising and personal impact are a bonus ̶   what really matters is doing it together as a team. It’s not about how fast anyone runs  ̶   it’s more about showing up, supporting each other, and finishing together. That’s what it’s all about.

“Team LandWorks represents an incredible coming together of the LandWorks community, bringing together trainees, graduates, staff, supporters and trustees in a way we’ve not seen before,” affirmed Project Director, Chris Parsons. “It’s a powerful example of the strength, unity and shared purpose that define LandWorks at its very best.”
